We are the Proud Sky Blues
WHO WE ARE
We’re a community of Sky Blues fans who happen to be LGBTQ+, or allies who believe football should be for everyone. Our members include season ticket holders, regular matchday goers, and fans who follow Coventry City from further afield or abroad.
We were founded in August 2023 and received official recognition from Coventry City shortly after. Since then, we’ve grown to more than 100 members and counting.
We’re here to create a visible, welcoming space for LGBTQ+ supporters – to connect, socialise, and enjoy football without having to leave part of themselves at the turnstile. We also work with the club to make LGBTQ+ inclusion a consistent and meaningful part of life at Coventry City, not just a one-off gesture.
That work has been recognised nationally. In 2025, Coventry City were shortlisted in the Professional Game Category at the Football v Homophobia Awards for work delivered in partnership with us. In 2026, Proud Sky Blues received a Highly Commended award in the Supporters Group category at the FvH Awards – recognition that, in less than three years, we’ve grown into something worth noticing.
We believe the beautiful game should be enjoyed by everyone. We’re doing our bit to make that a reality.
We believe that the beautiful game should be enjoyed by all.
Unfortunately, discrimination and abuse in football continue to rise. According to the latest figures from KickItOut, the charity received 1,398 reports of discrimination in the 2024/25 season – the highest figure ever recorded, and more than double the number received just four years ago.
For LGBTQ+ people specifically, the picture is concerning. Transphobic abuse online doubled in a single season. Reports of Ableism, Sexism, and Transphobia all more than doubled at grassroots level. And overall, homophobic reports, while down slightly in-stadia, remain a persistent issue across the game.
We believe any number of incidents of LGBTQ+ hate should never be tolerated, and we’re determined to help create a more inclusive environment around football.
We’re here to promote inclusivity within the beautiful game and provide a safe space for fans to meet up and be themselves. Our goal is to be a visible and vibrant part of the Coventry City family and to engage with the Club on LGBTQ+ issues in football.
WHY ARE WE HERE?
WHO WE ARE
We are a group of Sky Blues fans who just so happen to be part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally. Many of our members live locally and attend games regularly, either as season ticket holders or as often as possible, but we also have members who live abroad and follow CCFC from afar.
Our group was established in August 2023 and received official recognition from Coventry City Football Club shortly thereafter. We currently have more than 100+ members, and we expect that number to continue growing considerably over time.
We’re passionate about engaging with both the broader fanbase and the LGBTQ+ community while highlighting issues that concern LGBTQ+ fans. We believe in being an inclusive group and encourage fellow fans to engage and speak with us.
WHY ARE WE HERE?
Unfortunately, discrimination and abuse still occur in football. As recently as the 2023/24 season, KickItOut alone received 1,332 reports of discrimination, the highest number ever received by the charity in a single season.
Despite some small signs of things improving, for instance, the number of reports received from grassroots (down 24%) and professional football (down 9%) have fallen. However, hate and discrimination have moved online. KickItOut received 65 reports of LGBTQ+ hate in the 2023/24 season (up from 43). Also worryingly, reports of transphobia online have risen by as much as 183%.
We believe any number of incidents of LGBTQ+ hate should never be tolerated, and we’re determined to help create a more inclusive environment around football.
